Chapter 9: Film and TV

 Chapter 9: Overview

"Like other disciplines of the humanities, film, television, and video are vehicles of creative expression" (p.1)

I like this quote because I think that film and television are one of the biggest forms of expression. It is a different form of creativity, and it is something that is timeless. Which makes it that much more important. Film and television allow us to get a motion picture of events. Whether fictional or non-fictional, it is a very big portion of how we view society, and the world around us, When it comes to films, most people can all relate to something that was their favorite, or maybe even something that was relevant to their lives. Relatability is in fact one of the most significant factors that tv and film provide. It allows us to be able to go into the humanities, because it is one of the biggest forms of arts. I think that it will only get bigger, So of course, I agree that these things are vehicles of creative expression.

"Music is almost as omnipresent as the camera-it is a rare film that doesn't have a musical soundtrack"(p.2)

This quote is very related to me because one of the things I like most of films, is the music. If we think back to most of our childhoods, this is something that hold the biggest regard. There are so many films that we watch where the music holds more significance to use than the actual film. Most people can remember certain songs just based off of it being in a film. To me this just makes not only the film be unique but the film as well. When we as humans relate to something, we end up really making it a repetitive habit, We will play a song more than once, and sometimes multiple songs, if we relate to them. This is why music should always go in accordance to a films relevancy. I think that the better the music in the film, the better we as viewers will like the film instead.

"Directors makes choices about camera placement, shots, and angles, often in cooperation with cinematographers and other members of their crews" (p.4)

I like this quote because I feel like it provides a description of what we may not know as far as the visual progression of a film. I think that directors have one of the most important roles in film making. The implementing of others will be a good form of structure in overall creating a great film. I feel like the camera placement of a film is key because in most cases we want to make the film feel as real as possible. Knowing what angles, camera placement, and shots are needed are going to allow us as viewers to get the best experience of a film. I like that this quote emphasizes the role that the crew follows, and how the directors role weighs heavily on the outcome of the film overall.  Having a good director creates a great film.
