Chapter 16: Freedom
Chapter 16: Overview
"For most major religions, a central question is whether the actions of humankind are undertaken freely or are part of an overall plan of destiny created by God"
I feel like actions of human kind are undertaken freely, however I do feel like whatever is going to happen to us is an overall plan of destiny created by God. I feel like if us as humans were not acting on free will and simply only under God's purpose, then why would there be anything bad in the world? I feel like if that was the case then why would God let anything wrong happen and why would any of us suffer, or feel any pain. If we only had just the God's plan destiny I don't think there would any wrong in our world because I believe God would want the most perfect painless destiny for us all. However, I also believe in Gods destiny and his plan for ones life.
"Obstacles to freedom of choice and action are restrictions imposed on the individual by groups in power. It is hard to imagine that when people are aggressively denied freedom of action, freedom of thought is readily available to them."
This quote is something that I feel still effects a lot of different cultures. I feel like higher powers are always in place, however it does not mean that it is always a good. When people are denied certain freedom based off powers it is hard to have things be easy. Control of freedom I believe is never a good thing, especially when it comes to progression. I know that most of the time that we even witness a form of control of freedom, it makes us uncomfortable. I feel like nobody likes to be a victim of restrictions and I think that freedom over self should never be controlled over any groups of higher power.
I believe that many people, if imposed any restriction of freedom, will make them react negatively. I don't think there is ever a good outcome with freedom that you don't have based off of groups in power. This is why America is a popular country. We are known as the land of the free, and even with having that title, I feel like we also can feel control, especially with new controversial topics and the current political upcoming changes. Overall I think people do not like, or respond well to restriction of freedom.
"At any given moment, people are able to think back over a hundred choices they wish they had not made."
I like this quote because I feel like this is relatable to many people, I always feel like I make decisions especially when I was younger that I wish I did not make. I feel like this is the most relatable quote. Most people will have certain decisions that stay with them and become a regret, and I feel like sometimes that regret comes with a good lesson. However, it will never change the fact that it will be in our minds for a long period of times. I feel like most people have more of these moments as we experience life. Most times people are able to think back on so many choices they wish they never made. Overall it makes life better to have experiences you can learn from, and I think it is always going to be many choices we feel like we should not have made, but overall makes us better.
