Chapter 15: Nature

 Chapter 15: Overview

"Before the coming of civilization, human beings living in nature were free to roam where they wanted, settle where they wanted, and create a social order that suited their needs"(p.6)

I like this quote because it is an example of how life seemed to be much more simple. As we become more modernized it shows that we have made so many changes about how we are with nature, and how we are with civilization. Before many people were able to settle where ever they wanted, and it does not seem to be chaotic or any issues with sharing land, nature, and territory. There has been a progressive change in social order that now makes that type of living impossible. Now we need to be able to claim land, and nature in different ways.

There are also many differences in how to settle into homes, and settle into how we now live in nature. I think that it seems to be an easier life before because we were able to be more free of the thoughts of territory and more focused on living in nature. I also think that we were able to make a different connection with nature because it was more accessible. It seems to be less of a conflict before our society progressed to a more social order. I would of preferred to live where you wanted without concern and just base living off of my needs.

" Early Chinese dynasties, image after the image includes creatures of nature, both real and unreal-snakes, flowers, dragons-and natural formations, in particular, mountains and caves". (p.13)

I have always been interested in Chinese culture. I feel like that have a unique way of their perspective of nature. They also have a way of viewing nature, that I feel like is completely different from the way we view nature as Americans. I feel like Chinese culture is more insightful with their description of nature, and how they embrace nature into the things that they believe in. I think that they treat nature with more respect as a culture. It makes me interested in their ways of symbolism of nature and animals.

It seems that culturally they are very inclusive with nature, but also incorporate nature into the culture in its entirety. I think they are able to make others view nature differently. Which makes their perspective very intriguing to learn more about what certain pieces of nature represent, and their overall meaning of parts of nature. I also think that Chinese culture is more knowledgable with nature due to them having more of a connection to their natural way of life. It also seems like there is not a limit or standard. It seems culturally all nature is embraced and interpreted accordingly.

"Native Americans enjoy a long tradition of deeply spiritual relationship with nature"(p.24)

I feel like the native American culture has the most spiritual connection with nature. I feel like they have created a deeper connection with parts of nature and they have several different way of connecting nature for healing, medical, and spiritual. I think their culture connects the most with spirituality and nature. Their viewpoints from early on traditionally have always appeared to be very open to nature as far as animals and they have a knowledge of how different parts of nature can benefit the human body as well as the human mind.

I feel like their culture can be an example of a side of nature that most do not understand. They have a spiritual interpretation that I think would benefit all cultures to be more aware of. I think that most other culture may not even be able to have nature embrace them back with out the spiritual approach and connection that native Americans actually take with their culture. I feel like this is the most important. To learn how to connect spiritually with nature is something I have always wanted to learn more about.
