Chapter 4: Literature

 Chapter 4: Overview

"The word of a great poem just seem to have fallen into place by their own accord" (p.78)

This quote to me means that when writing poetry things will fall into place according to your thoughts and how you're trying to express yourself. Words of great poetry I believe take time to create. If for example we have an idea to write a poem, we may not have the right verbiage at the poem. However, with any great writing time is everything. I feel like finding the right idea of a poem can be the right way to let all of it come together in its own accord. Being able to let your thoughts take you to the point of writing a great poem. Illustration, rhyme, flow, all start within the writers creativity and all of which will fall into place.

Most of the great poets, have a big sense of creativity and style of writing. I think that those great poems all come about through art. I think that the best poems, as a reader, do seem to just fall right into place with the audience. Connecting to great writing is all about how the work affects us. Its about the delivery and style of writing. I think people will always connect more with a writer if they can be able to really feel the words. Some poems we read we can assume based off of its structure that it simply fell right into place.

"Some classics-but not all -also qualify as masterpieces" (p.63)

I like this quote because I agree, not all classical work will be masterpieces. I believe that a masterpiece is timeless. It is something that is relatable to all ages and can be something that everyone can hold onto for years. There is so many classics but can they actually be masterpieces? A masterpiece I feel like can be used as a comparison of what great work is. A masterpiece to me is something that is admired, a piece of work that you look at and say "this is incredible", or "this is amazing". I masterpiece I feel like makes everything you read or any piece of work admirable based off of what we considered a masterpiece.

Many art work, or any pieces of work can be classics. Classics to me means it was a very popular piece of work and we will continue to view/admire it for many years, however it will eventually fade with time or maybe just to justified to one era. Meaning, it stood the popularity of being a popular work of art, which made it classic. A masterpiece I feel like exceeds that, and just because it is classical it does not make it a masterpiece. However, all of which is in the eyes of the beholder of whatever piece of work. Masterpieces will be viewed and agreed upon universally as a great work of art or literature.

"Poets often employ various forms of figurative language"(p.73)

I believe that this quote describes that most poems will use metaphors to describe the actual poem. I feel like a lot of that is what makes good poetry. The ability to have creativity and to be able to put things in perspective with metaphoric examples brings greatness to any poem. The main thing that people look for in poetry is connection and creativity. It is what makes a poem stand out the most. I think that using figurative language allows us have greater insight on what we are reading.

I think that most of the times that I am attracted to a poem, I am more interested in the metaphors that the poem has. I think that can relate to song writing as well. The best songs, which are similar to poems are most interesting to me when there is figurative language. Being able to use objects and involve language with creativity. I also think that most times song writers are poets. Poetry that can make you imagine things beyond the actual language will always stand out more than just a simple poem of standard structure. I think most people need to be able to open their imagination to a good poem various forms of figurative language can create that.
